ELEMENTARY SUBJECT MATTER (ESM) PREPARATION PROGRAMS

In Fall 2017, 加州大学洛杉矶分校 underwent the approval process for previously approved Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) Preparation Programs 通过 California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).  The effective completion of an ESM Preparation Program would allow a student to waive the CSET: Multiple Subjects through an approved set of completed, accredited academic coursework. The university’s proposed programs in this regard were determined to hold the proper quality that satisfies the Commission on Teacher Credentialing's elementary subject matter program st和ards, 和 are effective as of the 2018 calendar year. 

The 四个 academic programs approved for an Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program via academic coursework 通过 CTC are 只有:

  • 儿童发展
  • 女奇卡诺人/ o & 拉丁/ o研究
  • 自由研究
  • 城市学习.

Requirements 和 Waiver Eligibility Updates

Each Program of Elementary Subject Matter Preparation shall consist of a minimum of 84 semester units, or equivalent quarter units, 包括, 但不限于, language studies 和 literature; mathematics; science; social science, 历史, 和 humanities; visual 和 performing arts; physical education; 和 human development. 

There must be a minimum of 12 semester units in the major content area. Institutional discretion on course equivalences accepted (articulation of courses 和 equivalent course substitutions).  加州大学洛杉矶分校 cannot “gr和father” now a previously completed ESM waiver that was not conferred/approved under old st和ards.  A student who began their post-secondary career at a community college can potentially be eligible for an elementary subject matter waiver after transferring to 加州大学洛杉矶分校.

A student can be considered for an Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) waiver provided that they meet/fulfill the following stipulations:

  1. Enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor’s of the following academic majors:
    • 儿童发展
    • 女奇卡诺人/ o 和 拉丁/ o研究
    • 自由研究
    • 城市学习;
  2. All applicable coursework must have been completed Fall 2016 or later.
  3. Completion of regionally accredited, academic coursework that is equivalent to the courses 和 units listed for each academic major.
  4. Following ESM evaluation student agrees to complete any outst和ing/remaining courses at 加州大学洛杉矶分校.
  5. Earn a “C” or better on every course listed for the Elementary Subject Matter program.
  6. Must be a degree recipient of 加州大学洛杉矶分校 or be enrolled to complete a preliminary teaching credential program at 加州大学洛杉矶分校.

放弃评价授与过程 is determined 和 executed by approved faculty advisors from one of the listed departments, 和 by the COE via program coordinator, 和 Office for Student Services advisors.
