Campus Demonstration Projects

The Urban Ecology Center is reimaging our urban campus as a space that supports and promotes sustainability, food security, and biodiversity.

Sustainability

Rainwater harvesting systems, healthy soils (campus composting), planting native plants, shrubs, and trees, constructing walking trails, and building a nursery and a seed library of native and indigenous plants

Food Security

Campus demonstration gardens (pollinator, edible, medicinal, native plants garden, and sacred plants garden that honors all religious and spiritual traditions)

Biodiversity

Campus greening and strategic planting to attract beneficial insects and pollinators, native and migratory birds, butterflies, and other species (bringing nature to our students, staff, and faculty for teaching, research, wellness, and sensory enjoyment)
